El museo fue fundado en 1992 por Floyd SwintonWilson, an aviation enthusiast and Confederate Air Force commander, and his wife Lois. The museum is located alongside Charlotte Douglas International Airport and is home to aircraft and artifacts from the dawn of aviation.
As a proud affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, the museum seeks to inspire visitors of all ages to pursue their own goals and dreams. Stories of innovation, hope and heroism throughout aviation history are highlighted and exhibited in the museum.
Carolinas Aviation Museum has recently partnered with several organizations to develop plans for renovation. Though the museum is not currently open for visitors, it is projected to re-open in 2023. Plan your future visit to discover the history of aviation in the Carolinas.
